Ultimate Guide To Signature Advertising
Well, after I created the “Your Daily Advertising Guide“, many are turning to be interested in doing business with forums. I am receiving some PMs and emails from other forum members, especially in DP, SP, and DTM asking me about some techniques and strategies in forum posting showing signatures. I am not really an expert on this “signature advertising” thing and I don’t recommend this simple reading to you if your desire is just to mess out with forums and post your spam campaign. If you are serious and have time, my own experience explained on this article might give you some positive idea.
Things you need to know before you decide to join a forum and start your signature campaign.
- Know The Forum Rules. Read the rules especially the signature rules. Some forums allow signature advertising but with limitations. V7N forum for instance allow only 2 links and a member must have 50 posts to have his/her signature appear on every post.
- Navigation as Visitor. Browse forum first as Guest and know if it is allowing signature advertising. Sometimes, it is difficult to find the forum rules so in order to find out if the forum allow signature posting, look for a thread with dozens of posts and see if the posts have signatures. If not, this means the forum is not allowing signatures, or has strict rules on signatures.
- Know your Niche. It is not advisable to join in a gaming Forum if you are trying to promote a Real Estate Website. Even if the forum offers unlimited links on signature space, do not waste your time. Join only in forums that are related to what you are promoting.
- Forum Activity. Know how many members are registered and how many members are online. It is useless to post on inactive forums. This may sound unfair to forum admins but this article is about signature advertising in forums so the focus here is the member. But this has an exception. If the forum is new and all threads and posts are new too, this is the best place to join because as one of the pioneer members, you can build your reputation when a forum gets developed in the future. Besides, your posts and threads will be noticed highly for the majority of members are building their posts too so they will surely answer your posts. Best example if Webcosmo Forum.
What to do
After joining an active forum where you want to start your campaign, the first thing to do is “to be good”. Do not include your link or your ad directly in the body of your message. I hate this attitude. Example of bad start that may lead to banning in your fist post is “Hi, My I’m Raden and I’m the webmaster/owner of Myseoblog.net. Please visit my blog and see useful content”. If I am a moderator or an admin of the concerned forum, I will immediately give you an infraction. Don’t tell me you are innocent. It’s intentional and not acceptable. Just introduce yourself without mentioning anything about your blog or website in message body. It is already there in your signature attached to your post.
- Threads. The best thing to attract readers’ attention is by posting very informative and unique threads. Threads that could make readers think, threads that are first time to be seen on forum, and threads that can be argued and can drive many comments and reactions. I hate people who are copying other threads from other forums, or copying other articles from article sites. If you do this, you are degrading your self. You may find some of my articles from DP also posted in SP, V7N, Ewealth, DTM and other forums but these are my original threads and articles and I have the right to reproduce them for advertising and educational purposes. Every forum has different set of members so there is nothing wrong posting the same threads as long as you are the original author.
- Posts. Post sensibly. This thing is easy to read, easy to understand, but hard to do. Posts like “I agree”, “Nice Idea”, “Very informative”, “I will do it”, etc are nothing but crap. No wonder why most forums set the minimum number of characters to avoid these types of messages. Answer the thread or the above post with content that invites another member to react so that the thread would keep rolling carrying your signature.
- Maintain Your Thread. Always answer every time another member or members posted a message under your thread. This is to keep your thread alive and your signature visible. But of course you must take note of the above remarks when posting. Do not post crap just to bump your thread. Wait for others to post and if no one is interested to post anymore, consider your thread dead and create another good one. To see if there are new posts in your threads, always visit your profile (if the forum uses VB) and click on “view threads”
- Maintain the threads where you have posts (subscribed threads). Just the same as maintaining your thread. In order to view these threads if there are new posts, just visit your “User Control panel”, or “User Profile Page”. To make your “subscribed” threads available in your control panel, for VBulettin Forums click on “Control Panel”, go to “Edit Options” and on “Default Thread Subscription Mode”, select “No email Notification” from the drop down menu.
Being active on 3 to 5 forums daily could really help your website grow. Creating a unique thread in DP or SP alone and maintain it within one week can give your site at least 30 unique visitors daily depending on how active the thread is. One of my threads in DP has around 1,890 views and 95 response within the last 12 days and has already sent around 1,000 unique visitors to 2 of sites in my signature within the 12 days. We are talking about just one thread here and in just one forum. What if I posted this article on 5 more active forums? This DP thread actually sends around 90 visitors per day to Myseoblog.net, without counting visitors from the same thread on SP, V7N, Webcosmo, Ewealth, DTM, and other forums. Another thread in SP have more than 6,000 views with 146 replies sending around 60 visitors per day since it was posted.
Don’t get too excited of what I am talking about here or you will blame me or tell me I am boasting of you fail. I am not asking nor expecting you to have the same result (as what my e-referrer.com stat shows on Myseoblog.net’s sidebar). Just try and evaluate the result. If you think you did everything but got negative result, then it’s your choice to quit or to continue. But if you think it gives you positive outcome, then we are on the same boat.
About the type and looks of your signature, it’s your own choice, You know what is attractive and what is not provided your signature font size, number of links, and length complies with forum rules.
This article is already too long to read so I will let you explore other simple things the moment you mastered the above details.
Good luck!

What are your thoughts on buying or selling signature spots? I see this advertised all the time at least on DP. Seems like a shortcut way to get more exposure, but you lose control of the quality and placement of the posts.

Buying signatures spots actually is a good idea if the member who has your link in his sig is active.. about the control of visitors, I don’t think its a problem. Signatures sends quality visitors. It’s like buying links…
Thanks for reminding me Debbie… I missed to check it… Already corrected..

I totally agree with you. I am also an active member of SP, DTM, V7N, Webcosmo and DP and I am surprise with the effect.
Additional tip in joining forum is to ask the members’ point of views about an interesting question. I remember my recent thread at SP entitled Which do you prefer, many subscribers or commenters? which had 2,925 views and 73 replies for 20 days. It really help increased my traffic and forum friends. In fact, it is still in the 2nd page of blogging sub-forum as of this moment.
By the way, thanks for such a helpful post.

too bad you’re comment links have external nofollow … don’t you think it’s important to keep the balance?
it seems so unfair, you explain how to benefit from forums that allow signatures links, but at the same time, you’re not giving people who post a comment on your a blog a link back …
just wondering …
cheers,
Michiel

Hi Michel,
I don’t know what exactly you mean but this blog is totally a dofollow blog. Try to use search status http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/ and you will see that comments here are not highlighted.
